What is a Candelabra?

The Candelabra is a large candlestick made up of a bouquet with several arms of light.

In Roman times, the candelabra made of bronze or marble, often ornamented, was a much more imposing light fixture .

From medieval times to the present day, it has become more
accessible and lighter , resembling a multi-branched candlestick.

Renaissance art associated the name candelabra with a motif consisting of cups, superimposed vases and arabesques used to decorate jambs or any tall, narrow surface.

Candelabra also refers to a lamppost or street light intended to illuminate public roads. This term, which has now fallen into disuse in everyday life, is still used in the fields of public works and urban planning.

What is the difference between a chandelier and a candelabra?

The words “ candlestick ” and “ candelabra ” have the same etymology coming from the Latin “ candelabrum ”.

What differentiates the candlestick from the candelabra is the number of candles, tapers or tapers it can hold.

The candlestick can hold one or more candles. The candelabra, on the other hand, will be made up of several branches extending from the central stem, and will be able to hold a large number of candles.

This more intense and larger light source will allow you to illuminate larger spaces.

The girandole is a candelabra or candlestick with several branches decorated with garlands or pendants made of glass or crystal.
