What is a Tealight Holder?
The photophore, a word borrowed from the Greek “ phôtophoros ”, which means “ which brings light ”, is a decorative element which can accommodate a candle as a lighting object.
The warm, open flame is contained in a container , which ensures its protection against the wind, especially if it is placed outside, or in a draft. The lighting of your room is thus ensured and safe.
Photophore is also the name given to the luminous organs possessed by certain creatures living in the depths of our oceans !

The Lantern, a bit of history…
In Ancient Greece , the first traces of lanterns are found in certain writings, notably those of the pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles of Agrigentum (490-430 BC / Agrigento in Sicily), and the Greek poet Theopompus (403-378 BC).
Empedocles would have named “ Love ” the principle of all union and all synthesis , and “Hate” that of all division in the phenomena of nature, after having defined the theory of the four elements which are Water, Fire, Air and Earth .
This theory is still used to this day in modern chemistry.
It seems that in Egypt and China , lanterns were also used long before Greek civilization.
In ancient China , lanterns were made from different materials such as animal skins, paper, silk, wood and bamboo.
In the 17th century, the Parisian authorities were the first to install lanterns equipped with candles in the middle and on the corners of each street . This practice quickly spread throughout France.
The use of the Lantern from its origins to the present day.
In China, lanterns have had a special place during the Lunar New Year, the Ghost Festival , and the Lantern Festival .
During these celebrations, it is not uncommon to see lanterns flying into the sky or floating on rivers, symbolizing the guides of the souls of the ancestors.
It is said that the ancient Chinese used to capture fireflies and house them in cages or pierced containers and use them as lighting.
In 17th-century France , Parisian authorities were the first to place lanterns equipped with candles in the middle and on the corners of each street. This practice quickly spread throughout the country.
Nowadays, electric lanterns are mainly used to light houses and streets. They are also used in portable versions for camping or in places that are not yet connected to electricity.
