What is a Candle Holder?
The word candlestick originates from the word candle, and appeared in 1531. It refers to a small candlestick without a base, fitted with a ring or handle. The base of the candlestick generally consists of a cup or saucer to collect the melted wax.
Although nowadays it is more common to find candlesticks made of wood , glass, crystal , and ceramic , they were traditionally made of metal such as copper, silver, or bronze.
In the 18th century, luxurious candlesticks were made of porcelain, crystal, lacquer and gold.
As an anecdote, under Louis XIV, holding the King's candlestick was considered a great favor.
What is the difference between a candle holder and a candlestick?
How to tell the difference between a candle holder and a candlestick ?
The candlestick is a low candlestick that serves as a support for a candle or a candle, while the candlestick is generally on a stand , and can hold one or more candles.
The candle holder , sometimes fitted with a ring or a handle, makes it easier to move around with its light source.
As for the candlestick , it will light up a table or a room more generously if it is positioned high up, on the edge of a fireplace for example.
Lighting with candles?
For centuries, candles were the only means of lighting. Candlesticks and candlesticks were found in every room of the house: bedroom, dressing table, writing desk. Depending on usage, they were called screen candlesticks, travel candlesticks, and card table candlesticks.
Today, it is advisable to have candles and candle holders such as candlesticks and lanterns at home in case of a power outage .
How to clean your candle holder?
* If your candle holder is full of wax, simply place it in the sink, cover it with newspaper, and then carefully pour boiling water over it. The wax will then melt and stick to the newspaper.
* A second method is to place your candle holder in the freezer for at least an hour. Make sure the material of your candle holder will withstand freezing.
Once completely cooled, all you have to do is peel off the stuck wax!
